Catholic School Defends Cross-Dressing Kids

LONDON (ChurchMilitant.com) – A Catholic school in the archdiocese of Westminster is defending a book on cross-dressing kids following complaints by outraged parents.

Parents told Church Militant that St. Catherine’s Catholic Primary School in Barnet, London not only marked LGBTQ+ “pride” in June but also refused to withdraw David Walliams’ controversial book The Boy in the Dress, which promotes transgenderism and cross-dressing.

The school, which trumpets its mission as “Loving and learning together as Jesus taught us,” also uses the Ten Ten: Life to the Full syllabus for its “Relationship and Sex Education” (RSE) program.

The syllabus has been endorsed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW) even though it promotes the LGBTQ+ agenda.

“I have … sought advice regarding the book The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams. I have been informed by our diocesan advisor that there is no Westminster diocese directive for such books,” the school’s head of religious education, Una McAuley, wrote to parents.

The Boy in the Dress is about 14-year-old John and his 12-year-old brother Dennis, who enjoys cross-dressing. It is aimed at readers aged 8 to 12 and is intended to teach children that cross-dressing is healthy and acceptable and not something to be ashamed of.

Speaking to Church Militant, Catholic parent Natasha Collins said: “For my children to be exposed to a book like this in the current climate appears to be part of an agenda. Coupled with widespread incentives to switch ‘gender,’ the book is no longer an innocent one.”

St. Catherine’s told Collins that its syllabus “is fully compliant with the Catholic Education Service’s Model Policy for RSE” and that it was introduced after “extensive consultation” overseen by headteacher Maureen Kelly, Fr. John McKenna, the Catholic Life Committee and the school’s governing body.

Collins, creator of the Literary Lifestories blog, contacted Cdl. Vincent Nichols, archbishop of Westminster, but has not received a reply.

“And why are children being taught about this in schools anyway?” Collins wrote, in correspondence with headteacher Kelly. “This is confusing the next generation into thinking they need to cut-off their ‘bits,’ add new ‘bits’ and take puberty blockers.”

Requesting anonymity for fear of reprisals, a senior British clinical psychologist told Church Militant that “younger children do not fully grasp the concept of gender until they are about 7. Teaching them concepts such as that they can be born in the wrong body or can change biological sex is not only factually incorrect but causes harm.”

“Schools should not be adding more fuel to the fire, and, for the sake of our children, this madness must stop.

The psychologist added:

Gender dysphoria is a real condition, and children suffering should be treated with compassion and provided with the appropriate interventions. However, instead of being given the serious consideration it deserves, their distress has been hijacked by the leftist woke brigade and used in its propaganda machinery to push an incredibly harmful political agenda.

Tom Rogers of Safe at School told Church Militant that “schools should not be adding more fuel to the fire and, for the sake of our children, this madness must stop.”

Dr. Rogers elaborated:

Parents who choose to send their children to a Catholic school expect those children to be taught values in line with authentic Church teaching. At the very least, they wouldn’t expect a Catholic school to celebrate an agenda antithetical to those values — and what “pride” marches and celebrations represent is completely antithetical to Christian sexual morality.

Whether it’s a Catholic school or not, introducing young primary aged children to transgenderism and celebrations of the LGBT lifestyle is liable to cause them confusion and harm. Indeed, we have seen a 4,000% increase in the past decade in children identifying as transgender and seeking treatment for “gender dysphoria.”

The Bible categorically condemns cross-dressing in the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy, declaring: “A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.”

In 2017, the Church of England issued new guidance to Anglican schools stating that boys should be free to choose to wear a tutu, tiara or heels, and girls to wear toolbelts and superhero capes.

The guidance, endorsed by Anglican archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, justified cross-dressing by children based on “inclusion.”

“Childhood has a sacred space for creative self-imagining. Childhood needs to be a period where we can make mistakes, try things out, explore projects and identities, without having to be bound by the consequences,” stated the Church of England directive.

Teachers were also instructed to “avoid labels and assumptions which deem children’s behavior irregular, abnormal or problematic just because it does not conform to gender stereotypes or today’s play preferences.”

“And why are children being taught about this in schools anyway?

The book The Boy in the Dress has been adapted into a television film and a musical.

Church Militant contacted St. Catherine’s headteacher Maureen Kelly and Cdl. Nichols’ office for comment. A spokesperson for Westminster said: “This is a matter for the school’s governing body to comment on.” St. Catherine’s School did not respond as of press time.

Catholic authorities in England have enthusiastically endorsed the government’s RSE laws, which override parental rights and normalize same-sex marriage and transgenderism for children as young as 4, Church Militant earlier reported.
